Verses for Recitation in Winter

by Brien Masters.

This fourth booklet of seasonal poems completes the set that Brien Masters wrote during the winter months of 2013, the last year of his life. This book offers us a selection of joyous, wintry, festive fun at a time when the months are at their coldest, the days at their shortest. The author captures the burning of our inner light at this time around Christmas and through the dark months...inner light which rewards us with spiritual strength.

What does snow suggest to a poet? Perhaps the descending of ethereal forces from heaven to earth; a hushed intimacy bestowed on our busy daily lives, which might remind us of that most delicate, heaven-sent blessing of birth.

If we bestir ourselves to engage our will forces and recite these verses aloud, be it solo and in private, or within an intimate group setting, or in professional recitals, or by inventive arrangements for choral-speaking groups, we will surely bring these poems to their full expression, bring strength to ourselves - and the winter season will also find its utterance.

Spring, summer and autumn volumes in this series by Brien Masters are also available.
