Ancient Mythologies
India, Persia, Babylon, Egypt

by Charles Kovacs.

The meaning of some of the world's great myths and legends springs to life in this collection of stories retold for children. Through the epic adventures of colourful characters - from kings and beggars to gods and demons - we may catch a glimpse of the ancient wisdom of early mankind. Spanning the centuries from Atlantis to the civilisations of India, Persia, Babylonia and Egypt, the author portrays the development of mankind from primitive hunters to builders of magnificent cities and the great pyramids. Buddha, Krishna, Rama, Zarathustra, Gilgamesh, Isis and Osiris are but a few of the lively participants in the unfolding historical narrative.

Charles Kovacs was a teacher at the Edinburgh Rudolf Steiner School and the stories in this volume were told to his Class 5 (ten year old) pupils. Although intended as source material for teachers and parents of Waldorf School children, the book has a universal appeal for children aged nine to twelve years.
