Consider the embryonic membranes which nourish and protect the embryo before birth: the chorion, the amnion, the yolk sac, and the allantois. Dr Steiner specifically explains the role of the soul-spiritual forces contained in these organs during embryonic development. After birth they are set off; but the forces inherent in them work in the physical human ego, astral, etheric and physical bodies, and become what Rudolf Steiner refers to as the invisible man, working in the realm of nutrition, healing and eventually, the process of initiation itself. He gives particular attention to their influence on pulse and breathing, blood and nerve-sense activity, and inflammatory and tumor-forming tendencies. Suggestions for healing measures are brought in relation to this complex interweaving within the human being.
