Songs of the Trees

Songs of the Trees
A collection of songs relating to the days of the week
and their relationship to particular trees, with a simple accompaniment in bass clef.
by Colin Tanser

The days of the week are also related to specific planets, and the association of heavenly bodies with musical scales and intervals (the ‘music of the spheres’) has an ancient tradition.

The so-called 'Planetary Scales' are used in these songs in their mirror form:
Upward movements in each song follow the corresponding mode comprising the ‘white’ notes of the piano in a scale, each taken from a different starting point.
With downward movements, the scale is mirrored by inversion – a move of an interval (e.g. a major second) in the rising scale becomes a movement of the same interval downwards.

Skill level: A.
